  More than 7.1 million people are estimated to have been internally displaced by Russia's war in Ukraine, having fled their homes but remained in the country, the United Nations said Tuesday, April 5. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, causing millions to flee their homes -- including more than 4.2 million Ukrainians who have left the country entirely.  The new figure issued by the UN's International Organization for Migration is up from the 6.48 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) estimated in a first study by the IOM on March 16.   "People continue to flee their homes because of war, and the humanitarian needs on the ground continue to soar," said IOM director general Antonio Vitorino.  "Humanitarian corridors are urgently needed to allow the safe evacuation of civilians and ensure the safe transportation and delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid in order to rapidly assist those internally displaced."  

Colorado Governor Jared Polis has signed a bill into law that codifies the right to an abortion in the state. Polis, a Democratic Governor, signed the bill Monday, April 4, following a flurry of recent restrictive abortion laws advanced by Republican state legislatures across the country.   The House Bill 1279, the Reproductive Health Equity Act, states that "every individual has a fundamental right to make decisions about the individual's reproductive health care, including the fundamental right to use or refuse contraception; a pregnant individual has a fundamental right to continue a pregnancy and give birth or to have an abortion and to make decisions about how to exercise that right; and a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent or derivative rights under the laws of the state."    Spanish second division club side, SD Huesca has terminated the contract of Super Eagles midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali. Huesca made the announcement on Tuesday April 5, stating they have decided to end their relationship with the 23-year-old.     The Spanish side did not give a reason for the termination, but it was reported that the two parties have been at loggerheads for a while. Huesca fined the former Golden Eaglets captain after he returned late from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.  Nwakali featured for Nigeria at the 2021 African Cup of Nations and his contract with the La Liga Smartbank team was expected to end at the end of the current season.
