July 22 is officially Kanye West day, in Atlanta anyway. After bringing his Donda album listening event to the city on Thursday, the rapper – who was born in Atlanta – was honored with his own day. According to TMZ, the City of Atlanta presented the rap icon with a plaque backstage at the event and proclaimed July 22 would now be known as Kanye West Day. The Blood On The Leaves rapper’s mother Donda was honored by Morris Brown College. The late teacher taught at the school for 20 years and was Chair of the English Department at the first Black-owned HBCU in Georgia. Kevin James, president of Morris Brown College, was on hand to present the Dr. Donda West Meritorious Service award on behalf of Kanye’s beloved mom.

Turkish League giants, Karagumruk SK have secured the signing of Nigeria international Ahmed Musa on a one-year deal. The 28-year-old winger was unveiled by the super-Lig outfit on Thursday ahead of the 2021-22 season, which will kick off a few weeks from now.  The move marks Musa's return to Europe after he left his boyhood club Kano pillars in Nigeria.   Details of the contract weren't revealed, but the striker is expected to boost the club's push in the Turkish top flights in this campaign. West hosted a launch party for Donda – an album named after his late mother – at the sold-out Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, the city where he was born, and revealed Jay-Z features on his latest album as the superstar rapper finally unveiled his new music. Heung-Min Son has signed a new four-year contract with Tottenham. The South Korea winger, 29, has scored 107 goals in 280 appearances in all competitions since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015 and has now agreed terms until 2025. Real Madrid has revealed that star striker Karim Benzema has tested positive for Covid-19. The France international, who was on Euro 2020 duty with his country earlier in the summer, is being prevented from forming part of the Blancos squad as they start work under new coach, Carlo Ancelotti. The club say Benzema will play no part in pre-season training as he begins self-isolation. A brief statement on the Blancos' official website reads: "Real Madrid C. F. confirm that our player Karim Benzema has tested positive for Covid-19." ''He will not be cleared to rejoin the rest of Ancelotti's squad before a negative test has been posted.'' Benzema hit four goals for his country at EURO 2020 before dropping out in the last 16. He is one of the senior players at Real Madrid.

Manchester United have confirmed the £73million signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.  The 21-year-old England forward completed a medical at United's Carrington training base last week and the final negotiations of his transfer from Germany have now been completed.  In his unveiling video, Sancho declares 'this is my club, this is where I belong' as he poses in the new United home strip.  Sancho said: 'I'll always be grateful to Dortmund for giving me the opportunity to play first-team football, although I always knew that I would return to England one day.  'The chance to join Manchester United is a dream come true and I just cannot wait to perform in the Premier League.   'This is a young and exciting squad and I know, together, we can develop into something special to bring the success that the fans deserve. Haiti's murdered president, Jovenel Moïse has been laid to rest today more than two weeks after he was assassinated in a late-night raid.  Pallbearers in military attire carried late Haitian President Jovenel Moise's body in a closed wooden coffin as his funeral got underway.  Moïse’s casket was draped with the Haitian flag and adorned with white flowers.    The bearers placed the polished casket on a dais garlanded with flowers in an auditorium. Four stood guard as a Roman Catholic priest blessed the coffin and a Haitian flag was unfurled. Among those in attendance   were Helen La Lime,   special representative of the U.N. secretary-general for Haiti.   Justice F. A. Olubanjo of the Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State on Thursday, July 22 convicted and sentenced Gift Kenneth, Dora Animam and Spice Chimzi Dandy Igwe to prison for internet-related fraud. A statement from EFCC says Kenneth, his biological mother, Animam and girlfriend, Igwe were arraigned on one count charge each by the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for offences bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretences.   The Olympics Opening Ceremony officially kicked off the Tokyo 2020 Games, which were initially delayed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.   At the opening ceremony, Team Nigeria showed out in style in stylish green and white outfits and, were led out by flag bearer Odunayo Adekuoroye and captain Aruna Quadri.

World No. 2 tennis player, Naomi Osaka, who represents Japan, was given the honour to serve as the final Olympic torchbearer for the Tokyo Olympic Games, lighting the Olympic flame during Friday's Opening Ceremony of the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games.   The first two torchbearers were former Olympic athletes Tadahiro Nomura and Saori Yoshida, who passed it off to   baseball legends Shigeo Nagashima, Sadaharu Oh and Hideki Matsui.    Hiroki Ohashi and Junko Kitagawa, a doctor and a nurse, carried the flame to seven-time Paralympian and wheelchair marathoner Wakako Tsuchida, who was the first Japanese athlete to win gold in both Summer and Winter Paralympic Games.  The Paralympian passed the flame to six young athletes from middle and high schools from regions devastated by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.
