Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has warned the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) to stop linking him to the re-arrest of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Noting that IPOB and its spokesperson know him (Ngige) very well as a man who calls “a spade a spade” and has no room for “equivocation or speaking from both sides of the mouth” since his days as Governor in Anambra State, Ngige stated that he knows the bounds of his office and does not have the time to meddle into Foreign Affairs of Extradition and security matters that clearly fall within the mandate of the Nigerian Diplomatic Missions, national intelligence agencies.   Paul Usoro, former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has been acquitted of the money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Usoro who was accused of laundering N1.4bn belonging to his home state Akwa Ibom, was initially arraigned on a 10-count charge before a court of appeal struck out four of the counts in which Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom was mentioned. While the EFCC called two witnesses and tendered some documents to prove the charges which Usoro pleaded "not guilty" to, Usoro's legal team which is headed by Effiong Effiong filed a no-case submission, contending that the EFCC failed to establish a prima facie case against him to warrant him to put in any defence. Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the federal high court in Lagos who ruled on the case, agreed with the defendant’s argument and discharged him.

Veteran American rapper, Biz Markie, known for classic rap song ‘Just a Friend,’ has died at age 57. Markie’s representative, Jenni Izumi, said the New York rapper, beatboxer, and producer died peacefully Friday evening, July 16, with his wife by his side.    “We are grateful for the many calls and prayers of support that we have received during this difficult time,” Izumi said in a statement. “Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years. United States authorities on Friday July 16, confirmed the first case of human monkeypox in the country in nearly 20 years. The first case of the rare disease in the United States since a 2003 outbreak, is said to be a Dallas resident who recently flew back home from Nigeria.  The patient who is currently hospitalized in Dallas, flew from Lagos, Nigeria, to Atlanta on July 8, and then flew on to Dallas, arriving on July 9, according to a statement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The agency added that masks were required on the flights and at U.S. airports due to COVID-19, and so the risk of monkeypox spreading to other passengers or travelers at the airports through respiratory droplets is low.  This is the first case of human monkeypox reported in the U.S. since 2003, when the virus caused a large outbreak after it spread from imported African rodents to pet prairie dogs, the CDC said.
