A veteran actor, Akin Lewis has encouraged filmmakers in the country to make movies that address contemporary societal ills. Lewis who spoke at the private screening of a social impact movie, The New Patriots, noted that such films sensitized people to happenings around them. He said, “There is the need for Nollywood to produce movies that address contemporaneous societal ills, and not only make movies that aim to simply entertain. Also, actors should give priority to playing roles that educate the populace about impactful issues in society.” Billed to start showing in cinemas in July, the executive producer of the movie, Dr Rotimi Adelola, noted that it would also be available on streaming platforms.

Doctors have discovered some COVID-19 patients are developing Macroglossia, a condition where someone's tongue is inflamed and begins to swell so much they can not speak or eat. Dr. James Melville, one of the top researchers of the condition, is aware of nine cases where a COVID-19 patient developed the condition.  'It's actually a relatively common condition, but not to the degree of those patients. Those are what we consider massive or giant macroglossia and those are extremely rare,' he said.     One of the patients he treated, Anthony Jones, woke up after surviving the critical case of COVID-19 that left him on a ventilator with his tongue swollen more than its normal size.  He has finally recovered, but Dr. Melville and other doctors remain perplexed over what might cause the rare complication.     Dr. Melville treated the first two cases of COVID-related macroglossia early in the pandemic last year.  According to Daily Mail,...

A 30-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested in Mumbai by the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) with drugs worth over N10m.  The accused identified as Chikou Jerome Amen was nabbed when he had come to deliver the contraband substance on Thursday, May 20. A total of 150 grams of mephedrone (MD) worth ?18 lakh was seized from him.  Acting on a specific information, a team from Bandra unit of ANC laid a trap at K C Road in Bandra west on Thursday afternoon and apprehended Amen at the scene. After the 150 grams of MD was recovered, the accused was booked under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act. He was produced before the court on Friday which sent him to police custody.
