The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) is investigating the blood clotting in some persons who received the first jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The Director General, Chikwe Ihekweazu, spoke to the press at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing. On Tuesday, the European Medicines Agency announced there’s a causal link between AstraZeneca’s jab and rare blood clots. Marco Cavaleri, Head of Health Threats and Vaccine Strategy, told Rome’s Il Messaggero newspaper that a definitive statement will be released this week. Ihekweazu said the government was aware of the blood clotting in individuals in Europe. “Those investigations are still ongoing. Not all European countries are adopting the vaccines for their populations,” he said. The DG assured that Nigeria has a system to measure and monitor any side effects. British actor and Harry Potter star, Paul Ritter, has died at the age of 54. His management in a statement released on Tuesday said he died of a brain tumour at home, surrounded by his wife and two sons. “It is with great sadness we can confirm that Paul Ritter passed away last night. “He died peacefully at home with his wife Polly and sons Frank and Noah by his side. He was 54 and had been suffering from a brain tumour. “Paul was an exceptionally talented actor and was fiercely intelligent, kind and very funny. We will miss him greatly,” the statement said. Prior to his death, Ritter featured in the HBO drama “Chernobyl; “Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince;” and James Bond film “Quantum of Solace.” In 2006 he was nominated for an Olivier award for his performance in Coram Boy and a Tony award for 2009’s The Norman Conquests.

Forbes has released its annual list of billionaires with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos topping it for the fourth consecutive year.  The 57-year-old's worth increased to $177 billion, up to $64 billion from a year ago as a result of a spike in Amazon shares, the media company said on Tuesday, April 6.  Tesla CEO, Elon Musk was the biggest gainer as he rocketed to the second spot with a $151 billion fortune, a whopping $126.4 billion gain a year ago when he ranked No. 31 and was worth $24.6 billion.   The Minister of Interior Affairs, Rauf Aregbesola, says the Federal government is willing to grant amnesty to inmates who voluntarily return to prison after they were released during the attack on the Imo state correctional Center on Monday, April 5. Aregbesola  gave the assurance while inspecting the attacked centre today Tuesday, April 6. The minister said the federal government will leave no stone unturned to fish out perpetrators of what he described as a “dastardly act”. “Unlawful escape from custody is a crime but government in its magnanimity will grant amnesty to prisoners who willfully return. They will no longer be charged with unlawful escape but only for the initial crimes that took them to prison. So we urge all escapees to return before they are caught on the run.”the Minister said   1, 844 of the inmates are currently on the run.

Former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, says Nigeria is where it is today because of nepotism. Speaking on Tuesday, April 6, at the Palace of the Emir of Bauchi during a one-day working visit to Bauchi state, Mr Jonathan said the problem is with Nigeria's leadership style that puts family, friends, and acquaintances over merit, ability and capability to deliver. He said for someone to be appointed to an office or given a responsibility in Nigeria, they must know someone at the top. This, he said, has been drawing the country backwards, Tribune reports. "In Nigeria, we have this tradition where some people feel that some ministries are big and juicy and must be given to a special person or that you have to know someone before you give him a responsibility role or put him somewhere. It is not like that with me, it is not my way of doing things," Goodluck Jonathan said.
