A court in the southern Tay Ninh Province, Vietnam on Tuesday, March 2, sentenced a 45-year-old Nigerian man to death for trafficking nearly four kilograms of methamphetamine from Cambodia. Ekwegbalu James Nzube said he got acquainted with another Nigerian, Jone, in China in 2014, and the latter had hired him to transport drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam.     In March he came to Ho Chi Minh City before going to Cambodia to fetch the drugs for which he was paid $2,000. But while illegally crossing the border into Vietnam last July he was caught by border guards in Tay Ninh Province. In his rucksack they found four plastic bags with nearly four kg of meth. Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of possessing or smuggling more than 600 g of heroin or 2.5kg methamphetamine face death penalty.

  Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, convicted Komolafe Ololade Olajide and Olaniyi Joshua Omobolaji for fraudulent impersonation. The offence runs contrary to Section 22(2) (b) (i) and is punishable under Section 22(2) (b) (iv) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015. They were convicted on separate one-count charge of fraudulent impersonation preferred against them by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Komolafe, 30, who claims to be a graduate of computer science from Osun State University was arrested on January 22, 2021. In the course of the investigation, a number of incriminating documents were recovered from his email. Upon arraignment on an amended charge after a plea agreement, he pleaded ‘guilty’. Late Daba who became a household name in Nigeria for his role as Bitrus in the now rested NTA drama series  Cock Crow at Dawn,  died on Wednesday evening, March 3, after a long battle with Leukemia and prostate cancer. He reportedly died at his Marwa Garden residence in Alausa, Lagos State. In 2019, he came out to publicly seek financial assistance for his treatment.
