A Texas megachurch pastor and former spiritual adviser to Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush has been sentenced to six years in prison for bilking investors out of millions of dollars. Kirbyjon H. Caldwell, 67, was sentenced Wednesday in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he and his co-defendant, Gregory A. Smith, were indicted in 2018. Caldwell, who in March pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, was the senior pastor of Houston’s Windsor Village United Methodist Church, which has about 14,000 members. He was a spiritual adviser to Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. According to federal prosecutors, Caldwell and Smith, a Shreveport-based investment adviser, used their clout and influence to persuade people to invest about $3.5 million in historical Chinese bonds. A prominent Imo Chief, Ifeanyi Ekeukwu a.k.a Anyiego na Amiri has allegedly ''resurrected" 31  hours after being ''certified dead and kept in a mortuary." It was alleged that Ifeanyi died on Friday January 15 and “resurrected” on Saturday January 16.The said incident which occurred in Amiri Village of Oru-East LGA of Imo state has led to wild jubilation in the community.    

A former Minister of State for Finance and Minister of Commerce and Industry, Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye, has died. He was 78 years old. Late Kuye died in his home at Victoria Garden City, Lagos this morning January 17. Born on August 1942 in Ago Iwoye, Ijebu constituency of Ogun State studied sociology at the University of Ibadan (1965-1968) and then Economics at the Harvard University Business School, graduating in 1983. He gained qualifications as a Chartered Accountant.   He was a senator in the Nigerian Third Republic. In 1999, he was appointed Minister of State for Finance during the first term of President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving until June 2003. In April 2010, he was appointed the Minister of Commerce and Industry by former President Goodluck Jonathan. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed former Military Administrator of Lagos and Borno States, Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa as the new Chairman/CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).  Before his recent appointment, the close ally of the President had worked assiduously as Chairman of Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse, PACEDA, between 2018 and December, 2020, along with others to develop a blue print on how to end drug abuse in Nigeria.  The Nation reported that Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu confirmed the appointment while responding to a media enquiry on Saturday January 16.  ”It’s true. The President has approved General Marwa as the new NDLEA Chairman,” he said in a text message.  

A Texan Realtor identified as Jenna Ryan has asked for a pardon from President Donald Trump after being arrested by the FBI as one of the Capitol rioters.  Ryan told CBS11   in Dallas that she deserves a full pardon because she thought she was following the President and doing what they were called to do.      The realtor who flew on a private jet to DC is facing a two count charge of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. But, according to her, she's been grossly overcharged and feels she did nothing wrong. She went on to defend her actions by saying the exact opposite of things she said on January 6 as she breached the Capitol. Suspected Fulani herdsmen militia attacked members of the Benue State Livestock Guards and Agro Rangers of the Nigeria Security and civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, leaving one person dead and one other severely injured.     Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, retired Colonel Paul Hemah, who confirmed the incident on Saturday while briefing journalists in Makurdi, said the Livestock Guards and NSCSC personnel were ambushed on their way back from patrol in Mbalagh Council Ward of Makurdi Local Government Area on Friday, January 15.     He noted that the herder's militia laid siege on both sides of the road and opened fire on their targets, killing a personnel of the Livestock Guards on the spot while a member of the Agro Rangers was badly injured.   An 11-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and impregnated by her grandfather, has died after suffering from severe morning sickness in Thailand.  According to Nation Thailand, the girl died in her mother's arm on Friday, January 15. The funeral was held at her house in Sahatsakhan district of Kalasin province after the body was taken to Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen for medical examination. The mother, 33, said that she had divorced from the girl’s father for five years, and acknowledged later that the daughter had been raped by her grandfather. The mother also mentioned that she had taken her daughter to a hospital in December, and a doctor there had confirmed the girl had an ectopic pregnancy. The girl vomited both food and medicine, she added. According to the mother, on Friday night, her daughter vomited and trembled with pain and eventually died in her embrace.
