Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, 76, has won a sixth term in office amid vote-rigging claims from his opposition challenger, Bobi Wine.  The country's electoral commission announced on Saturday January 16, that Museveni received 58% of votes and Wine 34%, and voter turnout was 52%. "The electoral commission declares Yoweri Museveni... elected President of the Republic of Uganda," said election commission chairman Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama. Byabakama urged the population to "remain calm and accept the outcome of these elections" while reminding those celebrating to be mindful of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Kaduna State University, KASU, has terminated the appointment of Dr. Idowu Abbas of the Geography Department, over allegations of sexual harassment. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the school, Prof. Abdullahi Ashafa, announced this in a statement in Kaduna on Friday January 15. Ashafa also announced the promotion of 12 other lecturers of the school.   According to Ashafa, the university’s Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), investigated the alleged sexual harassment against the lecturer and the report of the investigating committee was presented at the 217th Management Meeting of the institution on Jan. 12.   He said that the management dismissed Abbas from the service of the university and directed that all students under his supervision be reassigned to a decent lecturer in the department.   “According to the report, Abbas confessed in his testimony to have touched and...

Mike Pence, the Vice President of the United States of America has finally called the Vice President-elect Kamala Harris offering assistance. This development marks the first contact at that level between the Donald Trump administration and the incoming administration. The Vice President has increasingly taken on the public roles involved in government transition. Trump, who had in the heat of the crisis pledged to work toward a smooth transfer of power, has yet to contact President-elect Joe Biden or even acknowledged that Biden won the election. To say that fans of actress, Zainab Balogun, were shocked when she took to her social media page to disclose that she tested positive for Covid-19 towards the end of 2020, would be an understatement.  The ‘Royal Hibiscus’ told Saturday Beats that she was shocked as well. She said, “I was extremely shocked when I got the results. I was convinced that I didn’t have Covid-19 but decided to take the test in solidarity with a friend who was not feeling well. I assumed the symptoms I had, such as a cough, were related to my seasonal asthma and allergies. Dr. Dre has reportedly been released from hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm. According to TMZ, the hip-hop mogul went home on Friday, January 15, after being kept at Cedars-Sinai’s intensive care unit for 11 days. The report also said Dr. Dre will be receiving round-the-clock care from medical professionals while continuing to recover at home. It was also gathered that doctors do not know how he suffered the suspected aneurysm in the first place after he was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. When news of Dre’s aneurysm broke, he quickly updated fans about his condition on Instagram.  “Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes,” he wrote. “I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon.”  

New Paris Saint-Germain manager, Mauricio Pochettino has tested positive for coronavirus. The former Tottenham manager only took over at the French club on January 2 and led them to Trophee des Champions glory on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Marseille, winning his trophy as a professional manager. The 48-year-old Argentine will now self isolate and is set to miss the club's next two Ligue 1 fixtures against Angers and Montpellier. An official club statement read: "The coach of PSG Mauricio Pochettino is confirmed positive in the Sars-Cov2 PCR test. "He will therefore respect isolation and is subject to the appropriate health protocol. His assistants Jesus Perez and Miguel D'Agostino will take over from tomorrow in Angers."

American gospel singer and evangelist, Duranice Pace, who was part of the gospel group the "Anointed Pace Sisters" has died. She was 62. Duranice, who was the oldest of Atlanta's acclaimed sibling gospel group passed away from health complications on January 14, 2021 'Morning Rush' host and journalist, Shiba Russell confirmed her death in a tweet.  She wrote: "RIH Gospel legend Duranice Pace. I just confirmed the news of her passing with one of her sisters. I last spoke to my dear friend, my sister, on Dec 15 from her hospital bed. She was in great spirits. So very upset now.
