Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, reportedly lost a total of $900 million within 24 hours on Friday, January 8, after his company Dangote Industries Limited emerged the biggest loser at the end of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Dangote's wealth reportedly fell from $18.4bn on Thursday to $17.5bn on Friday, making him the 114th wealthiest man in the world, down from 106th the previous day. The report also showed that Dangote’s net worth had risen from $15.5bn on December 13 to close the year 2020 at $17.8bn. He further gained $600 million within the first week of 2021 but lost all of it and more last Friday. The share price of Dangote Cement Plc, the country’s biggest listed company, and Africa’s largest cement producer, reportedly tumbled by 8.13 percent to close at N225 on Friday from N244.90 on Thursday. A Nigerian man and his Indian wife have been in arrested for allegedly duping a 28-year-old school teacher of nearly  Rs 37 lakh (N19,217,395) after befriending her on a matrimonial site, Jamnagar police said on Friday, January 8.   The accused identified simply as John faked his identity and offered to marry the teacher after seeing her advertisement on a matrimonial website. The victim paid the amount in a number of instalments over the past six months. The money was deposited in separate bank accounts. According to Jamnagar cybercrime cell, John called up the teacher identifying himself as Rahul from the US and made a marriage proposal saying that he had seen her details on the matrimonial website. The duo started chatting regularly and one day, he offered to send her an expensive gift. Sean 'Diddy' Combs's house in Tuscana Lake, Los Angeles reportedly came under a burglary attack.  Law enforcement officials told TMZ that the house where his late ex-girlfriend Kim Porter was tragically found dead on November 15, 2018 was pried open, triggering the security system.    A caretaker discovered the break-in and it was clear someone rummaged through the house. While the cops have taken a burglary report, someone from Diddy's family will have to take a look around to see if anything is missing.

Pope Francis has changed Catholic Church law so that women can act as readers and altar servers in liturgical celebrations, while reaffirming they cannot be priests. In an unexpected apostolic letter published Jan. 11, the pontiff says he is making the change to recognize a "doctrinal development" that has occurred in recent years. That change, the pope says, "shines a light on how some ministries instituted by the church have as their foundation that common condition of baptism and the royal priesthood received in the Sacrament of Baptism." Francis' new letter, titled  Spiritus Domini  and issued 'motu proprio,' changes the Code of Canon Law to explicitly allow women to be installed in the Catholic Church as lectors and acolytes.
