At least 44 people were crushed to death and more than 150 people injured in a stampede after midnight Thursday, April 29, at a religious bonfire festival in Israel.   The incident happened at a mass gathering to celebrate the Lag B’Omer holiday at Mount Meron, Israel, medics said.   Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the incident "a terrible disaster."     The Magen David Adom rescue service said 38 people had been killed at the scene. It said its paramedics treated dozens of people, including 18 in a serious condition, 2 who were moderately hurt, and 80 lightly injured. All the wounded were evacuated to hospitals.   The wounded were taken to the Ziv hospital in Safed, the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, Rambam hospital in Haifa, Poriya hospital in Tiberias, and Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital in Jerusalem.   The Ziv hospital said six of the wounded had died and the Health Ministry confirmed that the total death...

Princess Shyngle was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance after she attempted suicide again.   The actress, who attempted suicide in 2018, made another attempt on her life in the United States of America.     Footage shared online shows her on a hospital bed. A medical report also shows the substances she consumed in her attempt to end her life.     "Depression is real. I gat this," she captioned the video.     Recall that in 2018, the actress was rescued by a neighbour and rushed to a hospital in Lekki, Lagos, after taking an overdose of a medication. She reportedly also drank bleach.

Anne Douglas, the widow of Kirk Douglas and stepmother of Michael Douglas has died at the age of 102.    Douglas died at her home on Thursday, April 30, in Beverly Hills, according to an obituary provided by spokeswoman Marcia Newberger. No cause of death was given.   Her death comes more than a year after her husband Kirk, who was known for "Spartacus," "Lust for Life" and other iconic films died on Feb. 5, 2020. He was 103.    The couple, who both met in Paris while he was filming “Act of Love” and she was doing publicity, were married for more than 65 years after tying the knot in May 1954.    Together, Douglas and Kirk had two sons: Peter, 65, and Eric, who died in 2004 at age 46. Channels TV has apologized to the management of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission NBC for its recent breach of broadcasting code.   The broadcasting regulatory body recently sent a letter to the television house, cautioning it for interviewing the spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Emmanuel Powerful.   NBC’s Director of Public Affairs, Franca Aiyetan, had an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), where she revealed that the station had apologised. A lone gunman suspected to be a cultist shot dead a young man identified as Kelvin Uzoma Efule in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.    It was gathered that the deceased also known as 'Mc Federal Govt' was killed when he came to buy something from a nearby supermarket on Ojike Street, Mile One area of Diobu at about 10pm on Monday, April 26.    The gunman was said to have fled after carrying out the act.   Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, April 27, said investigation was on to unravel the cause of the killing and apprehend the perpetrator.

A man was burnt to death in an accident involving four trailers and a petrol tanker in Kwara state. The accident happened at about 9:00 am on Monday, April 26, at Bode Saadu-Jebba expressway, Moro local government area of Kwara State. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state Fire Service, Hasan Adekunle confirmed the incident and said the accident was caused by overspeeding by the drivers, resulting in a head-on collision. The impact of the crash led to a fire outbreak and burnt the goods in the trailers. Five suspected cultists who claimed to be students of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) have been arrested during an initiation ceremony held in a bush behind the school campus. The state police spokesperson, Sunday Abutu said the Police Rapid Response Team acted on a tip-off and burst into the initiation venue to stall the exercise. Those arrested have been identified as Adeyeye Adeyemi (29), Adeyemi Tobi (25), Moyosore Onajobi (22), Dickson Godwin (23), and Olowosaye Martins (21). Abutu said that upon sighting the police team, the suspects shot sporadically but later bowed to the superior power of the security operatives, leading to the arrest of five of them while others took to their heels and escaped. Anthony Hopkins won the Best Actor honor at Sunday's Academy Awards for his starring role in  The Father .  The 83-year-old Welsh actor made history on April 25, with his second Oscar victory, becoming the oldest star to win an Academy Award for Best Actor award after becoming the oldest Best Actor nominee when the 2021 Oscar nominations were announced in March.  He beat out fellow nominees Riz Ahmed ( Sound of Metal ), Chadwick Boseman  (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom) , Gary Oldman ( Mank ), and Steven Yeun ( Minari ). Presenter Joaquin Phoneix, who won the category last year for his performance in  Joker , accepted the award on an absent Hopkins' behalf. A suspected car thief was caught while attempting to steal a Toyota Camry from a church in Afaha Oku, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital on Sunday, April 24.   It was gathered that the suspect succeeded in unlocking the car with a master key and was about to abscond with it when he was caught, severely beaten and handed over to the Police.     According to an eyewitness, Oduononwi Abidiak, the car belongs to a visitor who came for a child dedication service.
