  Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has gone into self-isolation after one of his close aides tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, December 10. The State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday December 11, said the Governor and other members of his team will be tested by the Lagos State biobank today but will remain in isolation until the results of the tests are available. "We are seeing slightly increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in clusters in Lagos and all Lagosians should adhere to the prescribed advisories of safe distancing, good hand and respiratory hygiene and avoidance of unnecessary gatherings," the Commissioner said. "This is not the first time Mr. Governor is having the COVID-19 test. He has had at least three since May when he announced that 10 of his aides had tested positive for the virus." he added.     

    Retired Air Commodore Akin Johnson was attacked and badly wounded while jogging close to his residence in Abuja. A source in the know says he was attacked by hoodlums.   FIFA, on Friday, announced their final three-man shortlist for this year’s Men Best Player of the Year, Puskas Awards and Best Goalkeeper. The world football governing body also announced their final three-man shortlist for this year’s Men Best Coach of the year, Women’s Best Player and among other awards in a post via its website. The nominees were chosen by a panel of football experts. The winner would be announced during The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony on December 17, 2020, and it will be streamlined live on FIFA’s website.     Dr Isidore Ojukwu Nwankwo, a former rector of Enugu Polytechnic has been sent to to prison for scamming his students. Justice N.I. Buba of the Federal High Court, Enugu handed over the sentence on Thursday. Nwankwo was prosecuted by the Enugu Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a six-count charge, bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of N1,153,700.00. The money was obtained by fraud from some students of the school in contravention of Section 1(1)(a) of Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and Punishable under Section 1(3) of the Same Act. Nwankwo’s journey to prison began when one Eze and 19 other students of the school petitioned the Enugu Zonal Office of the EFCC, alleging that they were deceived into believing that the school was partly owned by the Enugu State government and accredited by the appropriate authorities.   Lil Wayne has been sued by his former manager Ronald Sweeney for more than $20 million over past earnings.  According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Lil Wayne hired Sweeney in 2005 to help him negotiate his contract with Birdman’s Cash Money over their years-long legal dispute, which was ultimately settled back in 2018 with Sweeney’s help. However, the lawyer says he was not fully compensated for his work in the Cash Money deal. According to Sweeney, the rapper asked him to fire his then-manager Cortez Bryant, paving the way for him to take over the manager role at the rapper’s request. The suit claims Wayne raised his commission fees from 10 percent to 17 percent, but Bryant and rapper/music executive Mack Maine “conspired to drive a wedge between the rapper and Sweeney.” The attorney says the efforts paid off, as Lil Wayne fired him in September 2018.   Former Brazil international striker Robinho on Thursday, Dec 10, had a nine-year sentence for the rape of a young woman upheld by a court in Italy. Judges of the Milan Court of Appeal confirmed the sentence for both Robinho and one of his friends for group sexual violence dating back to January 2013. The pair were among a group of six men accused of taking part in the gang rape of a 22-year-old Albanian woman in a Milan nightclub. They were both ordered to jointly pay the woman damages of 60,000 euros ($A97,000). The case against the four other accused has been suspended.   Nigerian Ambassador to the US, Justice Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor, is dead. The Nigerian envoy died in a Maryland hospital yesterday night December 10. He was 85 years old. Late Nsofor assumed office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America on November 13, 2017. It was his first ambassadorial posting, after his retirement from the Court of Appeal. The late Nsofor was born on March 17, 1935, in Oguta, Imo State, Nigeria.  

  Two suspected armed robbers were on Thursday December 10, shot dead by men of the Anambra State Police Command in Onitsha.  Spokesperson for the command, SP Haruna Mohammed, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, December 11, said the robbers were members of a notorious robbery gang led by one Ikanda, who is currently in prison for murder.  "On the 11/12/2020 at about 10:10am, there was a distress call that four armed robbery suspects who belonged to a gang led by Ikanda (a notorious armed robber presently remanded in prison custody in connection with a murder case) were operating along Zik's Avenue by Miss Ellems Onitsha," the statement says.
