  Martin Luther King III, the son of late Martin Luther King Jr, has appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Buhari to guarantee the freedoms of peaceful protesters in Nigeria as the #EndSARS protests draw more International attention after the Lekki shootings. Martin Luther King III made the appeal yesterday evening on Twitter. “I appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to guarantee the fundamental freedoms of peaceful protesters in Nigeria, including their right to protest. “’Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ -MLK, Jr. We must stand with those protesting to #EndSARS,” he said.

  Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Sunday attacked Sabon Garin Bilbis community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State and killed a man. It was gathered that the suspected bandits stormed the community at about 1AM on Sunday October 25.     The bandits attacked the home of Ashiru Umar Manager, shot him on the leg after which they whisked away his wife and son. The deceased reportedly bled to death. During the attack which lasted for hours, the bandits ransacked the community and carted away valuables including food stuff and animals.   Meanwhile friends of the deceased have taken to Facebook to mourn his death. Several aides to US Vice President Mike Pence, including his chief of staff, Marc Short, have tested positive for coronavirus. The vice president's office have announced Marc Short,  Marty Obst, a senior adviser to Pence and another aide in Pence's office have tested positive for the virus.     The news comes just over a week before Election Day as Pence already has made campaign trips to Florida, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire in the last week. Pence,  traveled on Saturday to Florida for campaign rallies in Lakeland and Tallahassee. He emerged maskless from Air Force Two in Florida, running down the steps and jogging across the tarmac.      The vice president's office released the statement on Short's health after landing at Andrews Air Force Base.   Femi Fani-Kayode has attacked the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for saying that he did not travel out and that he is ‘still the Asiwaju of Lagos and Jagaban.’ A reporter had asked Tinubu, who paid a condolence visit on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Marina on Saturday: “Sir, we were told that you were in London, you were in Paris, when did you return?” Tinubu replied: “I didn’t go no where, I am a Lagosian, I still hold the title of Asiwaju of Lagos and I am still the JAGABAN.” This is the comment that infuriated Fani-Kayode that made him fire saying: “You are heartless, you are cold-blooded, you are wicked, you lack empathy for the suffering and you are a sociopath.     Pope Francis today called for urgent prayer for Nigeria to avert every form of violence. Nigeria has been engulfed by lots of violence, looting, destruction of properties and killing innocent people in the aftermath of #EndSARS protest. But Pope Francis in tweets today said what was not expressed in love of neigbhour was not true love of God.  He added that what was not drawn from one’s relationship with God was not true love of neighbour. He said there should be constant search of social harmony through the promotion of justice and the common good of others in Nigeria. In his words: “What is not expressed in love of neighbour is not true love of God; and, likewise, what is not drawn from one’s relationship with God is not true love of neighbour. “Let us pray to the Lord for Nigeria, so that every form of violence might always be avoided, in the constant search of social harmony through the promotion of justice and the common good.”

  Uche Elendu has reacted to allegations that she lied about her store being looted just to get donations from well-meaning Nigerians. Fellow actress, Doris Ogala accused Uche Elendu of flaunting someone else's looted store as hers.  She claims she knows the real owners of the store and asked Uche Elendu to come clean otherwise she'll expose her. Followers of Uche Elendu took to Instagram to question Uche about this allegation. Some called her out, others asked her to explain herself. "The store that was looted, was it yours," one follower asked. Uche responded: "Yes it is." She added, "My fans know the truth, others are free to patronize clout." To the follower who called her "ole" (thief), Uche responded: "Your mother ole." See below.  

  Gunmen stormed a school in southwestern Cameroon, killing at least eight children and wounding a dozen more, according to the United Nations. The attackers who had guns and machetes arrived on motorbikes and in civilian clothes. They attacked the Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in the city of Kumba, in the country’s Southwest Region, at around midday on Saturday, October 24. The United Nations described the attack as “the worst atrocity” since the resumption of the school year earlier this month. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. It was not clear if the attack was linked to a continuing struggle between government forces and armed groups in the English-speaking west seeking to form a breakaway state. “At least eight children were killed as a result of gunshots and attack with machetes. Another twelve were wounded and taken to local hospitals,” the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs ...

The Nigerian Correctional Service says it will be releasing the names and photographs of over 1,500 inmates who escaped from the custodial facilities in Benin and Oko, Edo State, and in Okitipupa, Ondo State, on Monday October 26, and Thursday October 29, respectively. Following the crisis that has rocked the nation after hoodlums hijacked the End SARS protests, several prisons were attacked and the prisoners were let out of the facilities. Giving an update on efforts to recapture the prisoners, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Correctional  Service, Austin Njoku, said the service was equally mobilising various security and intelligence resources to recapture the fleeing inmates.     The Kwara State Government has announced the state government plans to support business owners who had their businesses vandalised or looted by hoodlums following the violence that erupted from the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests. Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq after visiting vandalised and looted stores by hoodlums said the state has earmarked the sum of N500million to help the business owners to get back on their feet. He made this known in a tweet on his official Twitter page on Saturday. In his tweet, he wrote, “Today I visited the sites of some of the businesses that were looted by hoodlums. What I saw was disheartening. We will help the owners of these businesses get back on their feet. We’ve set up a N500m fund that they can apply for by clicking kwarastate.gov.ng/SMERecovery “

  Lee Kun-Hee, Samsung’s Electronics chairman is dead. He died on sunday, aged 85. The company announced his demise in a statement. It said Lee passed away with his family, including Vice Chairman, Jay Y. Lee, by his side. “Chairman Lee was a true visionary who transformed Samsung into the world-leading innovator and industrial powerhouse from a local business,” Samsung said. The firm’s turnover is equivalent to a fifth of the gross domestic product of South Korea, the world’s 12th largest economy. Lee would be remembered for turning the brand into a global giant. The deceased’s son, Samsung Electronics vice chairman, Lee Jae-Yong, has been running the company since his 2014 heart attack. Lee junior was jailed for five years in 2017 after he was found guilty of bribery and other offences. He was cleared of the most serious charges on appeal and released in 2018. A retrial is ongoing.
