  Nearly two-thirds of coronavirus hospital patients are still suffering organ damage months after being discharged, a small study has warned. Oxford University experts found 60 per cent of patients had scarring or inflammation in their lungs three months after beating the virus. MRI scans showed 30 per cent had lasting damage to their kidney, 26 per cent their heart and 10 per cent their liver. The Covid survivors also showed signs of tissue changes in parts of their brain, and performed poorer in cognitive and physical tests.  Two-thirds suffered from persistent breathlessness and 55 per cent showed signs of mental and physical fatigue.   The study of 58 Covid-19 survivors adds to the growing concern about the health and wellbeing of people who manage to beat a bad bout of the disease. Hundreds of mourners wept profusely as Mr Moses Tarnongu, his wife and three kids were laid to rest on Tuesday, October 20 in Benue State.     Tarnongo, a lecturer with Christian University of Mkar, Gboko, his wife Iveren Blessing, their three kids, Nadoo, Iengem and Tersen, were killed when a trailer lost control and ran over their Toyota car which was parked at a police check point along Ugbema- Ushongo federal highway on October 10th.   The burial was held in their home town Anyamor, Ikyase village, Gboko local government area of the state.   Many of the sympathizers couldn't hold back tears as the four caskets containing the bodies of the Tarnongo family were lowered into their graves.  

A Brazilian politician has called for footballer Robinho to be jailed 'immediately' for his role in the alleged gang rape of a 22-year-old Albanian woman at a Milan nightclub in 2013.  The 36-year-old former Manchester City and Real Madrid was convicted of rape in 2017, with a nine-year jail sentence handed down by an Italian court, but his appeal process with the Italian courts has been ongoing in the years since.       The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the deployment of anti-riot policemen in the Police Mobile Force (PMF) to protect lives and property as the #EndSARS protests intensify nationwide. The order was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Tuesday. The order is coming on the heels of the #EndSARS protest that has been hijacked by hoodlums and led to the loss of lives. In the last two weeks, thousands of Nigerian youth have taken to the streets to express their grievances. The peaceful protest yielded results with the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and setting up a judicial panels of enquiry by state governments. Many have died since the beginning of the protest against police brutality. A Garland man is facing a murder charge in the deadly shooting of his wife.  Police said the shooting happened on Sunday, October 18, at about 5:34 p.m. in the 1700 block of Oates Drive in Mesquite, just east of Interstate Loop 635 and north of Interstate 30. When officers responded to a shooting call at the property, they found a woman identified as 28-year-old Markeita McCleary, with multiple gunshot wounds. McCleary was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.     Her husband, 28-year-old Ashton Neroes, was taken into custody. He was booked into the Mesquite jail on Sunday night, with his bond set at $100,000, officials said.  A Mesquite police spokesman said authorities had not determined a motive in the shooting but an investigation is ongoing.

  Former footballer, Samuel Eto'o Fils has slammed France Football, organizers of the Balloon d'or award for lack of respect. The ex-Barcelona, Chelsea and Inter Milan super striker was annoyed after not being recognised as a striker by France Football, after the publication named him as a right-winger in its newly released Ballon d'Or Dream Team.     Eto'o is  Cameroon's all time leading scorer and third-most capped player with 56 goals in 118 caps and won three La Liga and two Champions League titles with Barcelona.   UEFA has admitted it could change to a ‘final eight’ format for the Champions League and Europa League from 2024. The format proved to be a big hit as the single-country, one-leg format was used to conclude last season’s competition in a campaign hugely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. UEFA this season announced it will revert to the regular two-legged system for quarter-finals and semi-finals for the rest of this season, but has not ruled out a change to the format beyond that.   Actor Williams Uchemba has stressed the need for a leadership structure in the #EndSARS protests worldwide.  The actor stated that anything without leadership will die and fizzle out. Uchemba averred that there is need for leadership to ensure there is focus, strategy, negotiations, execution and evaluation.    He wrote;   

  Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested three suspects in connection with a murder, defilement and rape that occurred on October 16, 2020, at Membley area in Ruiru Sub-County, Kenya. The key suspect, Levy Abubakara, 36, alongside 43-year-old Zablon Kariuki Maungu and 40-year-old David Abungana were arrested on Tuesday, October 20, after they were captured on CCTV footage entering a house and subsequently gang raping a 12-year-old girl and the househelp.     According to the statement by DCI, the suspects tied both their legs and hands with sisal strings before murdering the house girl by stuffing her mouth with socks and strangling her using a cloth.   The three are in police custody being processed for arraignment.  

    The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Niger Command, has arrested one Pam Ezekiel Adamu, 46, a dismissed staff of the agency, with 254kg of cannabis. The acting commander of the agency in the state, Aloye Oludare, told News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Monday that the suspect was arrested on October 9 in Mokwa local government area of the state. Mr Oludare said that Pam Adamu, with staff number: SN 5454 was serving in Gombe command before his dismissal in 2019. ”They loaded the car with the substance in Ado Ekiti in the company of another suspect who escaped, while they were heading to Adamawa,” he said. He explained that the suspect would be charged to court after the agency completed its investigation.

    Six persons have been killed in a tanker explosion at Lapai in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State. The incident happened in the early hours of today when two tankers collided before exploding in the state. This was confirmed to Channels Television by the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Ahmed Inga via the telephone. Mr Inga said at the time of filing the report he and his men were on their way to Lapai. Those injured in the explosion are said to have been taken to various hospitals in the local government area. Six tankers and yet-to-be-identified number of smaller vehicles have also been razed by fire. Also, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abubakar Bello, Mary Noel-Berje confirmed the incident via the telephone.

  The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of public and private schools in the state indefinitely. This was announced in a press statement by the state’s Head of Public Affairs, Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi.  The statement was titled, ‘Lagos directs students to stay at home’. It quoted the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, as saying that the schools were shut down over “tension generated by the anti-SARS protests.” The statement read in part, “The Lagos State Government has directed all pupils/students in public and private schools to stay at home following the tension generated by the anti-SARS protests. “A new date of resumption for all classes will be announced as soon as possible.” Adefisayo added that “the safety of the pupils/students, parents and all staff working in schools is paramount at this critical period”.   A Texas woman died from COVID-19 while on a flight from Arizona, officials announced this week. The unidentified Garland woman in her 30s began to have difficulty breathing while on the tarmac awaiting takeoff on July 25, news station WFAA reported. The woman, who had underlying health issues, was administered oxygen but ultimately died on the jetway, the outlet reported. It’s unclear what airport she was taking off from or what airline she was flying back to Texas. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said Sunday local officials were previously notified about her death, but only learned that she died from the virus a few days ago. We don’t know a whole lot,” Jenkins said at a press conference on COVID-19. “We may not know if she was aware she was sick.” ”Jenkins noted that the woman contracted the virus while in Arizona and said her case was a “reminder that there is no age restriction in COVID.”
