  #Trumphascovid is the number one trending topic on Twitter this morning after US President, Donald Trump confirmed today, Friday, October 2, that he has tested positive for Coronavirus, lighting up the social media space. Trump, who never liked the idea of wearing masks in public, saying it made him look weak, contracted the virus after his close aid Hope Hicks tested positive on Thursday October 1. As expected, many have been sending their prayers and wishing The President quick recovery but some are of the opinion that President Trump would not have been sympathetic if it was his opponent, Joe Biden, Hilary Clinton or Barack Obama that was infected. According to Twitter user, @OgbeniDipo, Trump would have mocked Biden, Clinton or Obama if they were the ones infected.      

  Oyigbo Police Station in Rivers State was reportedly attacked by unknown men who destroyed properties, including police vehicles. The attack reportedly took place on the eve on Nigeria's 60th Independence Day. Photos from the scene show the aftermath of the attack, including the charred remains of a police van, and another battered car.  According to reports, two people were allegedly killed in the attack but it's not clear if the victims were police officers or civilians.      

  European Union leaders broke a diplomatic deadlock on Friday to impose sanctions on Belarus, after reassuring the Republic of Cyprus that the bloc would also punish Turkey if it continued to drill for oil and gas in disputed areas of the Mediterranean. The deal, hammered out after hours of negotiations, will impose sanctions on about 40 officials accused of rigging August’s presidential election in Belarus although the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, is not among those singled out.   “No. Lukashenko is not on the current list, but of course we will follow the situation, we will follow developments,” Charles Michel, the president of the European Council, said after meeting EU leaders.   Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of making it difficult for Nigerians to celebrate diversity. According to TheCable, the cleric spoke at the Platform, an annual conference organised by Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos State, on Thursday. The virtual event hosted by Poju Oyemade, its convener, was to commemorate the nation’s 60th independence anniversary. Kukah said that he's not a happy Nigerian but remained hopeful. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a village flooded in recent typhoons to see recovery efforts, accompanied by his sister in her first public appearance in about two months, state media reported on Friday. Kim praised the speed of reconstruction work in Kimhwa County in the country’s southeast during the visit with Kim Yo Jong, KCNA said. “This year has been one of unprecedented hardships,” he was quoted as saying in response to the storms that have ravaged the country in recent months.   The younger Kim, considered the de facto second in command, is believed to be in her early 30s and is the leader’s only close relative with a public role in politics. She rose to prominence in March with a series of tirades against South Korea. American rapper, Nicki Minaj and her husband Kenneth Petty have reportedly welcomed their first child together.  According to TMZ, the 37-year-old gave birth on Wednesday, September 30, in Los Angeles. The site shared that the gender of the child and the name have not yet been made available. The rapper revealed her pregnancy in August when she shared stunning photos of her blossoming baby bump.     Nicki confirmed her marriage to Kenneth in October 2019 when she revealed to the world that she's changed her name.      

  US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he and his wife Melania had tested positive for COVID-19 and were in quarantine, after Hope Hicks, one of his closest advisers, tested positive for the disease. In a Tweet, Trump said he and Melania would “get through this together”. Hicks travels regularly with the president on Air Force One and, along with other senior aides, accompanied him to Cleveland for the first presidential debate with Democrat Joe Biden on Tuesday. She was also with Trump at a campaign event in Minnesota on Wednesday and flew back to the White House with him on the Marine One helicopter after the rally.  

  Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski has been named UEFA Men's Player of the Year for 2019/20. The Polish international, 32, who scored 55 goals in 47 games, including 15 in the Champions League, beat off competition from Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Bayern team-mate Manuel Neuer to emerged the winner.  The award was announced during the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Geneva.
