  Manchester City midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of their Premier League opener against Wolves. City announced the positive result on Monday morning September 21, ruling the former Borussia Dortmund star out of today's clash as he will now enter a 10-day isolation period. Gundogan will also be forced to miss this week's Carabao Cup match against Bournemouth and next weekend match against Leicester City at the Etihad. A statement from City said: "Manchester City FC can confirm that Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for COVID-19. "Ilkay is now observing a 10-day period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Everyone at the Club wishes Ilkay a speedy recovery." Gundogan becomes the latest City player to test positive for the virus after Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte both returned positive tests two weeks ago.

  A South African man has been given two life sentences for murdering and raping a nine-year-old girl. Philip Mailula, 27, from Mpulanga, was handed the sentences at Mbokola magistrate's court on Friday, September 18.  He pleaded guilty. According to police spokesman, Sgt Tlaki Matemane, Mailula took Bawinile Khoza to the bush in Mmametlhake in December 2017 and raped her. "He then decided to end the life of a girl, strangled her and dumped the lifeless body at the bush,” said Matemane. “The accused then returned back to his residential place and did not get peace, became scared and went to report the incident to the local prophetess, who alerted the police.” Mailula was arrested and linked to the attack on Bawinile through DNA evidence.   The Anambra State police command has arrested a three-man syndicate who allegedly abducted and raped a 24-year-old makeup artiste under the pretext of securing a job for her. According to a statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Haruna Mohammed, the suspects identified as  Ekwugha Innocent Chinazo 25, Chidiebere Ogoegbunam 24 and David Nnaemeka,19, allegedly raped the victim repeatedly while in captivity despite collecting N400,000 ransom from her relatives. Haruna said the suspects had on the September 13, lured the victim who resides at ST Micheal hostel Temp side Awka under the pretext of securing her a beauty makeup job.   Five staff of the Bauchi State Local Government Pension Board have been arrested by the police for alleged pension scam.    Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Wakili, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 19, said the suspects were arrested for Criminal conspiracy, Criminal Breach of trust by public servant, Criminal misappropriation, forgery and fraud.   According to Wakili, on the 12th September 2020, a letter of complaint from the office of Executive Governor Bauchi State signed by Musa Mohammed Kirfi, the Private Principal Secretary to Governor of Bauchi State against the suspects.   The suspects are Mohammed B.   The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested one Bawada Audi, 50, for the murder of his newborn grandchild in Rimin, Zayam Toro Local Government Area of the State.   Spokesperson of the command, DSP Ahmed Wakili, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 19, said that after the suspect's 17-year-old daughter Hafsat, gave birth to a baby boy, he snatched the child and buried him behind his house.     "On 16/09/2020 at about 1000hrs, a joint operation between the police and human right have brought one Hafsat Bawada ‘f’ aged 17yrs of Rimin Zayam Toro L.G.A Bauchi to Divisional Headquarters Toro who was alleged to have given birth to a male child on 14/09/2020 at about 0200hrs her father Bawada Audu ‘m’ 50yrs of same address seized the child and buried the Baby behind his house," the statement reads.   Upon receiving the report, the baby was exhumed and rushed to the General Hospital where he was certified ...

  Tragedy struck in Ivo local government area in Ebonyi state on Friday night, September 18, after a bus conveying 32 persons to a burial, plunged into Akaeze-Ukwu River in the local government area.     Spokesperson of the state police command, Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said 14 bodies have so far been recovered while efforts are being made to find other passengers.
