  A Tennessee fugitive wanted on rape charges killed himself on Thursday, September 10, when confronted by police in Alabama, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said on Friday. David Whelan, 49, an attorney from Murfreesboro was wanted on multiple rape charges including aggravated and rape of a teenage girl who had been babysitting his daughter, FOX 17 of Nashville reported. The girl who was able to escape, later called the police after the alleged attack. "During the course of [TBI's] investigation, agents developed information indicating that David Whelan forced or coerced female clients into sex as a way to re-pay their attorney fees," TBI said in a June release.  Whelan who had been under investigation since February 2019, has been on the run since early September when police said he failed to appear in court on his charges.   The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a notorious wanted criminal, Honest Digbara popularly known as Bobrisky accused of terrorizing some parts of Ogoni axis and being behind series of criminal activities in the area. Spokesman of the Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni disclosed this on Saturday morning, September 12, while showing the wounded suspect and that of his alleged second in command said to be his younger brother, at the command headquarters. According to SP Omoni, the suspect was arrested alive in the early hours of today, in a joint security operation with a local security outfit at Koro community in Tai local government area of the state.  Recall that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had earlier placed a N30 million bounty on the kingpin.      

  Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a businesswoman identified as Akpezi Okpidi in Ughelli town, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The victim is said to be the daughter of Hon. Harryman Okoro, a former PDP Delta State House of Assembly aspirant. Gunmen abducted Okpidi at about 8:00 a.m on Saturday, September 12, when the victim was said to be headed for her shop at Otovwodo, a suburb of Ughelli. She was reportedly ambushed while driving on her Honda car and whisked away along the Ughelli Township Stadium axis of the community.  The hoodlums who operated in a black tinted GLK Benz, drove through the Ughelli/Patani Expressway to an unknown destination.      

22-year-old Julija Adlesic from Ljubljana in Slovenia has bagged a three year jail sentence after deliberately sawing off her hand to claim a £925,000 insurance payout.  Adlesic reportedly hatched the macabre plot with her boyfriend and arrived the hospital when they knew the hand could not be reattached. Adlesic told hospital authorities that she injured herself while sawing branches.    Just days before the incident in early 2019, police investigations found Adlesic's partner, Sebastien Abramov searched online for information on artificial hands work. This was used as evidence that the amputation was part of an insurance scam plot.  Their plan was foiled after police recovered the appendage and surgeons reattached it. Liberian President George Weah, has declared rape a national emergency in the country after a recent increase of rape cases. Late on Friday, Weah said he would install a special prosecutor for rape in Liberia, set up a national sex offender registry, while ordering new measures to tackle the problem. The statement by Weah comes after thousands of Liberians protested against increased rape cases in the capital Monrovia last month, in a bid to highlight the country’s alarming rate of sexual assault. Addressing the meeting, the one time Ballon d'or winner said Liberia was “witnessing what is actually an epidemic of rape within the pandemic, affecting mostly children and young girls across the country.” Weah also announced that the government will also establish a so-called “national security task force” on sexual- and gender-based violence.   Three men have been arrested by the South African Police in connection to the shooting that led to the death of Actress, Thandeka Mdeliswa.  The 34-year-old actress was shot outside her family home in Evander days ago.  The suspects fled, including the triggerman. The police launched a manhunt which culminated in their arrest.  Lt Gen Mondli Zuma, the provincial police commissioner of Mpumalanga said the arrested suspects aged 24, 27 and 29, will face charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.   Zuma said; “We are glad that the suspects have been arrested, including the alleged murderer. “We also believe that at least the arrest will bring comfort to the family as they will be able to find closure on the matter. “It is my pleasure to also commend the good work done by both teams in the apprehension of the suspects,” said Zuma.
