  Former goalkeeper of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, John Felagha, is dead. The Nigerian Football Federation, (NFF) announced that the former National U17 and U20 goalkeeper died in Senegal on Sunday, August 30. He was 26-year-old.   Former National U17 and U20 goal keeper John Felagha has died. Felagha died on Sunday in Senegal. He was aged 26.   Students of the Lagos State University, LASU, are to resume in batches, starting from September. The Vice Chancellor,  Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, SAN, made this announcement on Monday, August 31, while speaking on a radio interview. He explained that 400, 500 and 600 levels students would resume first after which students in other levels would come onboard. The 400, 500 and 600 levels students would resume for a duration of two months with intensive lectures starting from 9am – 3pm daily for those that live off-campus. After the completion of 400 level,500 level and 600 level resumption; students in 200 level and 300 level are to resume for two months of lectures before the commencement of exams. Resumption for the students in 200 level and 300 level was divided into different days of the week. On Mondays and Wednesdays, 300 level students would be on campus for lectures.   Paul Rusesabagina whose true life story of saving hundreds of Rwandans during the genocide in the country by sheltering them in the hotel he managed inspired the 2004 Hollywood film 'Hotel Rwanda', has been arrested on terrorism charges.  The Hutu native who became well known after Hotel Rwanda, is wanted for a score of serious crimes. He is said to be the founder of the National Liberation Forces (FLN), '' an armed terrorist organisation '' under his Rwandan Movement for Democratic Change (MRCD). The Rwandan government is currently holding and trying dozens of FLN members for war crimes and other violations committed on Rwandan territory including murder. Callixte Nsabimana one of the FLN leaders is also undergoing trial in Rwanda.   According to the country's bureau of Investigation, Rusesabagina was arrested "through international cooperation" after an international warrant was issued.   Manchester United have agreed to sign Dutch midfielder Donny van der Beek from Ajax. The 23-year-old has agreed on personal terms with Manchester United in a deal thought to be in the region of €39m, plus another €5m in add-ons.  Van der Beek will complete his medical in the coming days while with the Netherlands squad for the Nations League games against Poland (September 4) and Italy (September 7) before travelling to the UK. United will offer Van de Beek a five-year contract worth a significant pay rise on his current £30,000-per-week wages. Van de Beek helped Ajax reach the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals and scored ten goals in 37 appearances for Ajax last term.  The Netherlands midfielder who can operate in a central or attacking role would be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing of the summer transfer window.  

  Former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin has reportedly asked a judge to dismiss murder charges against him in the death of George Floyd.  In court papers, defense attorneys for Chauvin said there is no probable cause to support charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. They asked a judge to dismiss the murder charges against him, arguing that Floyd's alleged drug use, not the improper use of force by the officer, was to blame for his death. Meanwhile, prosecutors said on Friday August 28, that they are planning to seek a harsher sentence for the ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is one of four charged for the murder of George Floyd.  According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison informed Peter Cahill, the judge in Floyd murder case he will be seeking a harsher sentence for Chauvin, for several reasons.   A 27-year-old farmer in Ogbomoso, Abraham Alamu, has been arrested for allegedly killing a herdsman called Shuaib Adamu. According to reports, Alamu launched a brutal attack on Adamu of Elega village in Oriire local government area of the state, on August 21, after he caught his cattle grazing on his farmland. Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the Public Relations Officer, Oyo state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Oluwole Olusegun, said Alamu had been handed over to the Oyo state police command for investigations into the suspected murder. Items recovered from the suspect include carpenter working tools: scissors, hammer, saw, nail remover, mosquito net, three ATM cards, two apprentice identification cards, cloth, bible, toothbrush, and purse.   NBA star, LeBron James paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman before the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trail Blazers game on Saturday night, August 29. The basketball great led a pre-game moment of silence as he took a knee and did the Wakanda Forever salute by crossing his arms over his chest in honour of the Black Panther actor, who died on Friday, August 29, at 43 after a 4-year battle with colon cancer.   Boseman who never discussed the illness publicly died at home surrounded by his loved ones, including wife Taylor Simone Ledward, his family said.

  3 suspected kidnappers have been killed by members of a vigilante group in Yobe state who launched an ambush against them.  Yobe police spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim who confirmed the incident said the suspects were killed on Sunday August 30. It was gathered that the vigilante group launched a counter attack against the suspected kidnappers after they (kidnappers) stormed Dungurum community in Murfa Kalam village, where they kidnapped one person.  While three of the suspects were killed, three others were apprehended and handed over to the Nigerian Army.   Abdulkarim said;    “It was this morning (Sunday) we received information about an attack on a community under Murfa Kalam village where three suspected kidnappers were killed following an ambush by a vigilante group. “Presently, the corpses have been deposited at a morgue in the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu while investigations are ongoing.”
