  Crystal Palace have completed their £16million signing of midfielder, Eberechi Eze from Queens Park Rangers.  The England-born Nigerian star has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Selhurst Park despite being targeted by several clubs including Aston Villa, Fulham, Leeds, West Ham, and West Bromwich Albion.   The 22-year-old becomes the Eagles' second arrival of the summer after Nathan Ferguson signed a three-year deal at the club. The attacking midfielder scored 14 goals in 46 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship for QPR.    On signing for Crystal Palace, Eze said: "As a football club, I feel like there are great players here.   India has seen a large spike in number of new Coronavirus cases after 77,226 infections were recorded in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day caseload in the world.  India now has a total of more than 3.38 million cases since the start of the pandemic with 46 percent of infections detected in August alone. The country also reported 1,057 new deaths, the Health Ministry said earlier today, taking the total to 61,529.   The figures show that India has been recording more than 60,000 new daily infections since August 7, the highest single-day caseload in the world every day for three weeks.  The country's previous highest daily count was 75,760 recorded on Wednesday, August 26. India now has the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the World after the United States and Brazil.

  The Port Harcourt Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, arrested nine suspected internet fraudsters. A statement released by the antigraft agency gave the names of the suspects as Sotonye Orugbane; David Egbunugwu; Emmanuel Chinemerem, Providence Oliver Samuel and Emmanuel Fidelis Nwambu. Others are: Promise Nkwachi; Micah Nimi, Precious Ogadinma and Ebi Micah.   According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended in an early morning raid on their hideout in Ozuoba by Obirikwere Road, Choba; NTA Road and Ada George Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.   ''Investigations indicate that the suspects specialize in love scam, online Bitcoin scam, identity theft, trading scam, among others.'' the statement in part read     Items recovered from them include Sixteen (16) Mobile phones of different brands; one (1) HP laptop; two (2) Apple watches ...

Japan's prime minister, Shinzo Abe, 65, has announced his resignation after his eight-year stint in power due to ill health amid reports he had been vomiting blood.  Abe, 65, who made the announcement on Friday August 28, said he had suffered a relapse of a chronic bowel condition -saying he had 'lost a lot of his energy and strength' and would need regular medical treatment that would prevent him from tackling the Coronavirus crisis.  'I have been struggling with my illness and I have to get treatment. Poor health should not lead to wrong political decisions,' he told a press conference.   Speculation about the Prime Minister's health started after he made several visits to a Tokyo hospital in the space of one week. The Russian and US governments have blamed each other after Russian and US armoured vehicles in north-eastern Syria collided on Wednesday August 26, injuring US troops. In a video broadcast by a Russian nationalist website, Rusvesna.su , a Russian military vehicle in a desert convoy could be seen ramming a US armoured car, as a Russian helicopter flew low overhead.   Recently, news of numerous incidents involving US forces in north-eastern Syria have become the norm.  Almost a week ago, US forces came under fire from Russia's Syrian allies while in February 2018 a large force of Russian mercenaries launched an assault against US positions near a major oilfield.  But this latest incident is the first time there was a direct confrontation between the official Russian military and US troops.   The Federal government has shifted the resumption date of international flights to September 5. Hadi Sirikia, the Minister of Aviation, had earlier announced that the date for resumption for International flights was Saturday, August 29.  However, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday August 27, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA, Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, announced that the date has now been moved to September 5. According to Nuhu, while airlines and airports were ready to operate, other non-aviation logistics were not and this has necessitated the one-week extension. “We have other non-aviation logistics we are still working on, mostly the COVID-19 protocol tests and online platform.   Socialite, Cubana Chief Priest has been accused by one of his female workers of assaulting her at Cubana nightclub in Owerri which he manages.  According to @Rukkyjib, the incident occurred on August 23. She alleged that Cubana Chief Priest punched her in the face and was stopped from attacking her further by eyewitnesses at the scene.  She also revealed that she won't take the alleged assault incident lightly and has reported him to relevant authorities to get him arrested.  She wrote;    Cubana Chief Priest formally known as Paschal Okechukwu assaulted me when I was working at Cubana, Owerri on Saturday 23rd August 2020. Chelsea have confirmed the signing of French defender Malang Sarr on a free transfer.  The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge but will head to Bayer Leverkusen, in a loan switch that would help secure the signature of Kai Havertz in a £90m deal. In 119 appearances for Nice, the France Under-21 international scored three goals before leaving the club to join Chelsea on a free transfer.   The United States has imposed sanctions on 24 Chinese companies for helping the Chinese government build structures in the South China Sea, an action that will surely increase tension between the US and China, who already have a damaged relationship. The sanction, is the first action of its kind by the US against China over the disputed South China Sea. The US Commerce Department, in a statement said the 24 Chinese state-owned companies especially the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), played a "role in helping the Chinese military construct and militarize the internationally condemned artificial islands in the South China Sea" and "must be held responsible." The companies will be added to the Commerce Department's Entity List, according to the statement.  American firms will be restricted from selling US goods and technology to them without a special license.   Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, has been disqualified from contesting in the upcoming elections to be the next president of the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF). Drogba alongside Paul Koffi Kouadio, Diabate and Yacine Idriss Diallo submitted their papers and CV to stand in the polls earlier this month but FIF's Electoral Commission has ruled that the former Chelsea striker did not completely fulfil its list of eligibility criteria.   R. Kelly has allegedly been attacked by another inmate inside Chicago prison. According to TMZ,  the incident recently went down inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, where he is being held after pleading not guilty to dozens of state and federal sex crime charges in Illinois, Minnesota, and New York. The news site reports that the 53-year-old was sitting on his bed when another inmate walked in his cell and started punching him. Federal law enforcement sources told TMZ that the inmate attacked R.Kelly because he was angry about the detention facility being placed on lockdown on different occasions due to the singer's protesters outside the jail. After the alleged attack, R. Kelly was examined by a doctor, who determined the singer was okay as he didn't suffer any broken bones or serious injuries.
