  Gunfire was heard on Tuesday, August 18, at an army base outside Mali’s capital Bamako in what diplomatic and security sources said was a mutiny. The soldiers on Tuesday fired their guns into the air in the base in Kati while witnesses said armoured tanks and military vehicles could be seen on its streets, according to media reports. This comes amid an ongoing political crisis in the Sahel state. There are unconfirmed rumours that the mutineers had arrested President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, prompting hundreds of anti-government protesters to pour into a central square to celebrate and say it was time for him to resign. However, some reports claim the President had been taken to a safe location.   An American mother-of-two, who left home in Texas to visit her boyfriend, was found dead with all of her teeth missing in Mexico just a day after she was reported missing by her mother. María Rubio said she last spoke to her daughter Lizbeth Flores on August 9 when she travelled to the Mexican border city of Matamoros and said she would return later that night to her Brownsville, Texas, home. The concerned mother contacted the Brownsville Police Department on August 10 to file a missing person's report after losing contact with her 23-year-old daughter. Flores' body was discovered on August 11. She died from head injuries suffered after she was beaten with a rock that was found at the scene of the tragic incident, Matamoros police said.   Governor Hope Uzodimma's convoy suffered an attack on Monday August 17, while on the Governor was on his way to the 34 Attilary Brigade in Obinze, to inaugurate an officers mess built by the state government.  While the hoodlums armed with guns and machetes claimed to be staff members of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) and also disclosed they were protesting non-payment of their salaries, the state government said its position that most of the protests in the state were sponsored by the opposition had been vindicated.   The state Commissioner of Police Isaac Akinmoyede who confirmed the arrest of 15 suspects linked to the attack, said they were arrested with one locally-made pistol, two machetes, a mask, a chain and a padlock.   Ex-Manchester City, Joe Hart has completed his shock move to Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer following his release from Burnley at the end of last season.he former England international, 33, underwent his medical tests on Monday and has signed a two-year contract that will see him earn £50,000 a week.    He becomes Tottenham's second signing of the summer after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who joined the club for £15 million from Southampton and will compete with Paulo Gazzaniga for Hugo Lloris' No 1 spot in Jose Mourinho's squad next season.   During 12 years at Manchester City, Hart won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup.    He also enjoyed loan spells at Torino and West Ham before joining Burnley in 2018, where he made 24 appearances.   Hart, who started his career at Shrewsbury, has 75 caps for England.  

  Ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) have been directed not to make plans for new projects in 2021 by the federal government.  The directive which was conveyed in a 2021 Budget Call Circular issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, came ahead of the preparation of next year's budget estimates.  Nigerian Tribune reported that the circular signed by the minister of finance Zainab Ahmed, read;     “The thrust of the FGN’s capital expenditure programme in 2021 will be the completion of as many ongoing projects as possible, rather than starting new projects.   The Lagos state police command has arrested the owner and driver of the container that crushed to death two staff of the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria FAAN on July 26.   Chidimma Ajoku and her colleague, Chima Nnaekpe, had closed from work on the said day and boarded a commercial bus home. Sadly, the truck driver conveying the tanker lost control and the container fell on their bus. Chidinma and Chima died on the spot. Three others sustained injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital lsolo for treatment while the corpses of Chidinma and Chima were deposited at Yaba mortuary for post mortem examination.
