  Former Manchester City captain, Vincent Kompany has reportedly retired from professional football to become the full-time manager of Belgian side, Anderlecht.  The 34-year-old first joined the Belgian side in a player-manager role back in May 2019, but has now hung up his boots and will take on the full managerial role at the club While on his player-manager role, he stepped down from the managerial side and focused on playing after Anderlecht suffered their worst start to a season since 1998-99. Frank Vercauteren took over as head coach, but reportedly had a fallout with Kompany with the two not sharing the same vision for the club. Vercauteren has now left Anderlecht, and Kompany has been made the full-time manager of the Belgian side. Netherlands manager, Ronald Koeman is set to become next Barcelona coach after Quique Setien was sacked following the club's humiliating 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich last week.  Setien, 61, who was only appointed in January was relieved of his duties after Barcelona finished trophyless first time in 12 years. According to Mundo Deportivo, Ronald Koeman will become the next coach of Barcelona and the details of his contract are being finalised following negotiations with the Dutch Football Association. Koeman is expected to first sign a two-year contract with a longer-term contract likely to be handed to him depending on the outcome of the club's presidential elections next year. Ronald Koeman is one of the most decorated stars in Barcelona's glorious history. He played for Barcelona from 1989–1995, scoring 106 goals for the club and also worked as Barcelona's assistant coach between 1998 and 2000.

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Minna, Niger State, on Monday August 17, sentenced two brothers, Hassan Bilyaminu and Abdullahi Biliyaminu, who are Islamic clerics, to 22 years imprisonment for raping four girls who were students in their Islamic school in Minna, the state capital. The suspects were arrested earlier this month and were dragged to the court by the police on two counts charges which include sexual assault and act of gross indecency.  According to the First Information Report (FIR) which was read in court by the Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Bello Mohammed, the offenses committed by the suspects were punishable under Section 285 of the penal code law, as well as Section 19 (2) of the Child’s Right Law of Niger State, 2010.   The charge sheet read “That on the 2nd of August, 2020, one Lawal Idris of Tudun Nasira Area of Maitumbi in Minna, represented three others, and reported that on 31st of July, 2020, you Hassan Bilyaminu and Ab...

  John Mikel Obi has joined Stoke City after reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Championship side. The ex-Nigerian international, 33, who became a free agent after leaving Turkish side Trabzonspor by mutual consent back in March, completed his move to the club on Monday afternoon.  After sealing the deal, Stoke boss Michael O'Neill said: "I was really impressed with him when we met for the first time and he outlined what he wants from the next phase of his career.''   Democratic US vice presidential nominee, Kamala Harris has reacted after US President Donald Trump and his campaign promoted a birther conspiracy against her last week. Last week, former Vice President Joe Biden selected Harris as his running mate, boosting his chances of defeating Trump in the November polls. If Biden is elected, Harris would be the first Black and South Asian American vice president. After Biden announced Harris as his running mate, John Eastman, a lawyer and Chapman University professor questioned Harris' eligibility to contest for president or vice president in a Newsweek op-ed, saying she was born to Indian and Jamaican parents.   Harris was born in Oakland, California, making her natural born citizen meaning she is eligible to be vice president, but Trump, who has pushed similar conspiracies about former President Barack Obama, said that he would not be "pursuing" questions about Harris' eligibility, but did not dismiss the conspi...

  The pilot of a hot air balloon has died and two passengers were severely injured after it crashed near the banks of the River Rhine in Germany, police said on Monday, August 17. The balloon was caught by a gust of wind as it came into land at about 8pm on Sunday near Urbar, south of Koblenz in western Germany, according to an initial investigation by local police. The balloon hit the ground several times, throwing four passengers out of the basket, before being dragged down a hill and getting caught in a tree, police said. The pilot, who was stuck in the basket, died from his injuries.   The two injured are in a serious condition but out of danger, according to police, with all the passengers flown to local hospitals. More than 100 people assisted in the rescue operation.

  An eight-year-old female student at Portage Path Community Learning Center, Mikayla Pickett was shot and killed during a birthday party for a teenager last week Friday August 14, in Ohio, it has been revealed. According to the Beacon Journal, who broke the news, the shooting took place in the 700 block of Roselle Avenue near Manchester Road, UK. Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at the residence 11.48pm Friday and found the girl police with an apparent gunshot wound. She was then rushed to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she later died. A man, Willie Walker told the Journal he was hosting an outdoor birthday party for his 15-year-old grandson in his backyard when the shooting started. “All hell broke out,” he said. “I don’t know what the hell happened.” Walker said three or four people showed up at the property and started shooting at the partygoers. “I don’t know know how many shells they took,” he said, referencing police who found multiple bullet c...

  The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a syndicate that specializes in the cloning of Subscriber Identification Module cards better known as SIM cards of prominent deceased persons and emptying their bank accounts in connivance with some criminal bank officials. The syndicate were arrested after their leader, Osita Nwafor alias Ossy, was nabbed by men of the Rapid Response Squad. Other members of the gang include Nwogu Chike, Anthony Odama, Ikechukwu Nkem, James Okonkwo, Adedio Paulinus and Olufemi Ogundepo. A statement by the RRS says the suspects connived with some bank workers in Nigeria and outside the country to loot the funds of deceased persons. It was gathered that Chika was working on the transfer of $220,000 from a foreign bank, while Ogundepo was working on the transfer of N25m from an old generation bank in the country before they were arrested.   Six time Ballon d'or winner, Lionel Messi has told Barcelona he wants to leave the club immediately, according to a new report. According to the report, Messi is angry at Barca's humiliation out of the Champions League on Friday with an 8-2 thumping by German giants, Bayern Munich. The report says early this season Messi threatened to  leave Barca if there was not a major restructure at the club but after the Bayern game he reportedly informed club bosses he is not willing to wait for the change and wants to leave the club "immediately." Messi, 33, has grown disillusioned with life at his boyhood club following numerous mounting problems behind the scenes.
