  Three Nigerian nationals have appeared in the Kuruman Magistrate's Court, Northern Cape on charges of human trafficking. This follows after members of the Hawks, Crime Intelligence, K9, Tactical Response Team, Crime Scene Investigation and Home Affairs raided guest houses that were used as brothels in Kuruman and Rustenburg and rescued 11 victims of human trafficking on Sunday morning. Five suspects were arrested.  Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, who confirmed the development on Tuesday, September 29, said that three of the suspects - Chikwuma Emmanuel Ibekwe, 37, Emmanuel Ikechkwu Okafor, 28 and Ifeanyi Michel Udechi, 30, appeared in the Kuruman Magistrate's Court on Monday and were remanded in custody. "The case was postponed until October 6." Mulaudzi stated that the two other suspects, who were arrested in Rustenburg, were expected to appear in court on Tuesday.   The Lagos state government has cancelled the Independence Day parade expected to hold on Thursday October 1.  Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who opted for a lowkey celebration due to the Coronavirus pandemic, directed that the planned parade and other activities that involve the gathering of more than 50 people should be cancelled.   Two unknown men in military uniform reportedly unleashed a vicious attack on a commercial motorcyclist in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.   According to a report posted by an eyewitness on Facebook on Tuesday, September 29, the incident happened last Friday. It was gathered that the Okada rider picked the uniformed men at Leru junction, Umuchieze, in Abia State and they directed him to drop them at Nneato. However, when they got to somewhere near Spiritan University, Nneochi, they stopped him and forced him to the bush. There, they tied him up and hacked him with unknown objects. They left after believing he was dead and made away with his motorcycle.  The man regained some strength, untied himself and crawled to the roadside where he was found and rescued by passersby.   

  The federal government has suspended the new electricity tariff for two weeks, after the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress suspended its planned nationwide strike scheduled to begin today Monday, September 28.  The suspension was announced following the agreement that the deregulation of the oil sector and increase in pump price was to remain as the government rolls out palliatives for labour. At the meeting, it was also agreed that Electricity tariffs should be suspended by the Federal government for 2 weeks with a joint Committee headed by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyami, to examine the justification for the new policy.   The Management of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has suspended a lecturer, Dr Rowland Uchechukwu Igwe of the Department of Sociology for allegedly impregnating a student. It was gathered that the lecturer allegedly intimidated, sexuallly harassed the said student before impregnating her. Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, who confirmed the development in a statement on his personal Facebook account, on September 24, said the undergraduate suffered health complications as a result of the pregnancy.   A Nigerian man identified as Joshua Ayodele Fasipe has been declared missing in Canada. Latoye Sade, a Canada-based Nigerian Twitter user, who confirmed this  said that Mr Fasipe, a graduate of Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, has been missing since Wednesday, September 23. She pleaded with anyone with useful information to contact Carleton University Nigerian Students Association, CUNSA.        

  Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has warned that Nigeria may break up if efforts are not made to address the "existing cracks." Osinbajo gave the warning while speaking at an interdenominational church service to commemorate Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary on Sunday, September 27.   Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has suspended its planned nationwide strike that was scheduled to start today, Monday, September 28, in protest against the hike in the price of fuel and electricity tariff. The strike was suspended after reaching a consensus with the Federal Government early Monday morning at a meeting between both parties. The government, in a meeting which dragged until 2 a.m this morning and led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, had agreed to suspend the electricity tariff for two weeks while a committee comprising labour and government representatives will advise further.   Three policemen who participated in the September 19 governorship election in Edo state and were returning to Lagos have died in a fatal accident that occurred on the Benin-Ore Expressway in Ondo State. The deceased were returning back to their base alongside some of their other colleagues when the vehicle they were traveling in got involved in the accident. While the others sustained different degrees of injury, the three police officers died on the spot and their bodies have been deposited in the morgue at the Ore General Hospital. “An accident claimed three policemen while on our way back from election duties in Edo State last Sunday, September 20, 2020.
