  Former goalkeeper of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, John Felagha, is dead. The Nigerian Football Federation, (NFF) announced that the former National U17 and U20 goalkeeper died in Senegal on Sunday, August 30. He was 26-year-old.   Former National U17 and U20 goal keeper John Felagha has died. Felagha died on Sunday in Senegal. He was aged 26.   Students of the Lagos State University, LASU, are to resume in batches, starting from September. The Vice Chancellor,  Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, SAN, made this announcement on Monday, August 31, while speaking on a radio interview. He explained that 400, 500 and 600 levels students would resume first after which students in other levels would come onboard. The 400, 500 and 600 levels students would resume for a duration of two months with intensive lectures starting from 9am – 3pm daily for those that live off-campus. After the completion of 400 level,500 level and 600 level resumption; students in 200 level and 300 level are to resume for two months of lectures before the commencement of exams. Resumption for the students in 200 level and 300 level was divided into different days of the week. On Mondays and Wednesdays, 300 level students would be on campus for lectures.   Paul Rusesabagina whose true life story of saving hundreds of Rwandans during the genocide in the country by sheltering them in the hotel he managed inspired the 2004 Hollywood film 'Hotel Rwanda', has been arrested on terrorism charges.  The Hutu native who became well known after Hotel Rwanda, is wanted for a score of serious crimes. He is said to be the founder of the National Liberation Forces (FLN), '' an armed terrorist organisation '' under his Rwandan Movement for Democratic Change (MRCD). The Rwandan government is currently holding and trying dozens of FLN members for war crimes and other violations committed on Rwandan territory including murder.   Manchester United have agreed to sign Dutch midfielder Donny van der Beek from Ajax. The 23-year-old has agreed on personal terms with Manchester United in a deal thought to be in the region of €39m, plus another €5m in add-ons.  Van der Beek will complete his medical in the coming days while with the Netherlands squad for the Nations League games against Poland (September 4) and Italy (September 7) before travelling to the UK. United will offer Van de Beek a five-year contract worth a significant pay rise on his current £30,000-per-week wages. Van de Beek helped Ajax reach the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals and scored ten goals in 37 appearances for Ajax last term.  The Netherlands midfielder who can operate in a central or attacking role would be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing of the summer transfer window.  

  Former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin has reportedly asked a judge to dismiss murder charges against him in the death of George Floyd.  In court papers, defense attorneys for Chauvin said there is no probable cause to support charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. They asked a judge to dismiss the murder charges against him, arguing that Floyd's alleged drug use, not the improper use of force by the officer, was to blame for his death.   A 27-year-old farmer in Ogbomoso, Abraham Alamu, has been arrested for allegedly killing a herdsman called Shuaib Adamu. According to reports, Alamu launched a brutal attack on Adamu of Elega village in Oriire local government area of the state, on August 21, after he caught his cattle grazing on his farmland. Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the Public Relations Officer, Oyo state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Oluwole Olusegun, said Alamu had been handed over to the Oyo state police command for investigations into the suspected murder. Items recovered from the suspect include carpenter working tools: scissors, hammer, saw, nail remover, mosquito net, three ATM cards, two apprentice identification cards, cloth, bible, toothbrush, and purse.   NBA star, LeBron James paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman before the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trail Blazers game on Saturday night, August 29. The basketball great led a pre-game moment of silence as he took a knee and did the Wakanda Forever salute by crossing his arms over his chest in honour of the Black Panther actor, who died on Friday, August 29, at 43 after a 4-year battle with colon cancer.   Boseman who never discussed the illness publicly died at home surrounded by his loved ones, including wife Taylor Simone Ledward, his family said.

  3 suspected kidnappers have been killed by members of a vigilante group in Yobe state who launched an ambush against them.  Yobe police spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim who confirmed the incident said the suspects were killed on Sunday August 30. It was gathered that the vigilante group launched a counter attack against the suspected kidnappers after they (kidnappers) stormed Dungurum community in Murfa Kalam village, where they kidnapped one person.  While three of the suspects were killed, three others were apprehended and handed over to the Nigerian Army.   Abdulkarim said;    “It was this morning (Sunday) we received information about an attack on a community under Murfa Kalam village where three suspected kidnappers were killed following an ambush by a vigilante group. “Presently, the corpses have been deposited at a morgue in the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu while investigations are ongoing.”

  Chadwick Boseman‘s final tweet by his family announcing his death has become the most liked post in Twitter history.  The American actor, best known for playing Black Panther in the hit Marvel superhero franchise died on Friday, August 28, after a four-year battle with colon cancer. The 43-year-old died at home in Los Angeles with his wife and family by his side. In a public statement, Twitter noted how “fans are coming together on Twitter to celebrate the life of Chadwick Boseman, and the tweet sent from his account is now the most-liked tweet of all time on Twitter.” The social media giant confirmed the accolade on its own account, with the caption: “Most liked Tweet ever. A tribute fit for a King. #WakandaForever.” Twitter also brought back the “Black Panther” hashtag emoji in honor of the late actor.   Months after losing his wife to cancer, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, has lost his brother-in-law, Dr David Hargett, to the dreaded disease, COVID-19. Ben Bruce shared the sad news on his Twitter handle on Saturday, August 29. ''Dr David Hargett, older brother of my late Wife Evelyn died this morning from complications of COVID 19. In 5 months, three children have died. The Hargett’s had ten children. I will miss him.'' he wrote The Senator lost his wife, Evelyn, to cancer in March this year.  

  Another lady identified as Mary Daramola has been allegedly raped and killed in the Akinyele area of Ibadan, Oyo state. According to reports, Daramola who was 18 years old, was allegedly raped and killed at Alabata community, near Moniya, in Akinyele Local Government on Monday, August 24. The spokesperson of the state police command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed the incident to The Nation, said a suspect has been arrested over the incident and that the suspect has been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for investigation. Fadeyi said the police have launched a full-scale investigation into the unfortunate incident. No fewer than five persons have been killed in the area in the last four months in very mysterious circumstances. A suspected serial killer, Shodipe Sunday, has been arrested in connection with the previous killings in the local government area.

  Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the reopening of tertiary institutions in the state effective Monday, September 14. The governor disclosed this development during a regular briefing on the state’s COVID-19 status on Saturday, August 29. During his address, the governor announced that primary and secondary schools are also tentatively scheduled to re-open from September 21. He explained that the decision to re-open schools in the state was based on indications that the pandemic has peaked in the state as the number of new cases continues to steadily decline.   “This decision is not cast in stone and is subject to review of our ongoing modelling and what procedure comes out from the Ministry of Health,” he said. He further reiterated that restaurants are now permitted to open for in-dining services in the state, although they must continue to ensure spaces are only filled up to 50 percent capacity at all times.   A pregnant woman, her two children, and one other person were killed in an accident that involved one tanker, one truck, and six motorcycles at Ikare, Akoko North-East local government in Ondo state on Saturday August 29. several persons were also injured in the accident.   According to reports, a tanker conveying diesel had a brake failure and crashed into a truck, which eventually crushed the commercial motorcyclists. The spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo, Omotola Ogungbawo, confirmed four deaths from the incident. However, eyewitnesses claim the death toll is eight. The bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited in a mourn.     

  Three persons identified as Melody M, Isaac G., and James S., have died in a boat mishap that occurred in Adamawa state. Sahara Reporters reports that the victims, two males, and one female, reportedly drowned while on their way to a burial ceremony in the Lamurde Local Government Area of the state, after the boat capsized. Confirming the incident, the chairman of Lamurde Local Government Area, Burto Williams, described it as an unfortunate tragedy. "The accident is a very unfortunate tragedy that requires government to come to the aid of the people of the area who are constantly being ravaged by cascading water.   Lamurde LG is making efforts to provide medical treatment for the survivors while the council will also foot the bill of the burial arrangements of the three deceased," Burto said

  Hollywood star, Chadwick Boseman, best known for his star role in the movie, Black Panther, has died aged 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer. He passed away on Friday at his Los Angeles home with his wife, Taylor Simone, and other family members by his side.   His family confirmed his death on Twitter and revealed he had first been diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2016 two years before the release of Black panther.   India has seen a large spike in number of new Coronavirus cases after 77,226 infections were recorded in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day caseload in the world.  India now has a total of more than 3.38 million cases since the start of the pandemic with 46 percent of infections detected in August alone. The country also reported 1,057 new deaths, the Health Ministry said earlier today, taking the total to 61,529.   The figures show that India has been recording more than 60,000 new daily infections since August 7, the highest single-day caseload in the world every day for three weeks.  The country's previous highest daily count was 75,760 recorded on Wednesday, August 26. India now has the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the World after the United States and Brazil.

  The Port Harcourt Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, arrested nine suspected internet fraudsters. Japan's prime minister, Shinzo Abe, 65, has announced his resignation after his eight-year stint in power due to ill health amid reports he had been vomiting blood.  Abe, 65, who made the announcement on Friday August 28, said he had suffered a relapse of a chronic bowel condition -saying he had 'lost a lot of his energy and strength' and would need regular medical treatment that would prevent him from tackling the Coronavirus crisis.  'I have been struggling with my illness and I have to get treatment. The Russian and US governments have blamed each other after Russian and US armoured vehicles in north-eastern Syria collided on Wednesday August 26, injuring US troops. In a video broadcast by a Russian nationalist website, Rusvesna.su , a Russian military vehicle in a desert convoy could be seen ramming a US armoured car, as a Russian helicopter flew low overhead.   Recently, news of numerous incidents involving US forces in north-eastern Syria have become the norm.  Almost a week ago, US forces came under fire from Russia's Syrian allies while in February 2018 a large force of Russian mercenaries launched an assault against US positions near a major oilfield.  But this latest incident is the first time there was a direct confrontation between the official Russian military and US troops.   The Federal government has shifted the resumption date of international flights to September 5. Hadi Sirikia, the Minister of Aviation, had earlier announced that the date for resumption for International flights was Saturday, August 29.  However, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday August 27, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA, Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, announced that the date has now been moved to September 5.   Socialite, Cubana Chief Priest has been accused by one of his female workers of assaulting her at Cubana nightclub in Owerri which he manages.  According to @Rukkyjib, the incident occurred on August 23.
