  The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, yesterday, March 9, 2016, signed a letter of intent for the repatriation of 321 million dollars allegedly stashed in Swiss banks by the late Gen. Sani Abacha, former Nigerian Head of State. According to Vanguard, the signing, which was preceded by a brief discussion between Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and Swiss Foreign Affairs Minister, Didier Burkhalter took place at the Vice-President’s conference room where Malami signed on behalf of Nigeria and Burkhalter for his home country.

  A 43-year-old Concrete man died Sunday after accidentally shooting himself in the face with what he thought was an unloaded gun. The man and his girlfriend were at a residence in the 46000 block of Baker Loop Road taking photos of themselves with the gun when the incident occurred, Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Patrol Chad Clark said. The girlfriend reported that the pair had done this several times during the day, with the man apparently removing the bullets and then reloading the gun multiple times. After the last time, however, a bullet apparently remained in the gun, Clark said. The death is being investigated as accidental, Clark said.  

  Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has apologized to Nigerians for the lingering fuel scarcity that has resulted in long queues across the country once again. “We have stepped up measures designed to eliminate the challenges experienced by the public in accessing petrol across the country,” NNPC wrote on its Twitter page. “We once again apologize to Nigerians for the inconveniences as we work assiduously to avoid a repeat of this distressing situation,” they wrote a second time.

  The man pictured left allegedly killed and buried his own father in Umuajana Village Umudioka, Dunukofia LGA of Anambra state. The old man had gone missing for some days and his family had started looking for him. The shallow grave where the son buried him was discovered on Sunday March 6th, around 2pm after someone raised suspicion. The son was handed over to the police for further investigation. The Senate Committee on Niger Delta says it will conduct a full investigation into the activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) since 2000 till date. This is coming on the heels of discovering that the commission paid out about N15 billion for projects that were nonexistent, or not carried out in Ondo and Bayelsa States. Chairman of the committee, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, said in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital on Sunday , that the commission paid out N3.9billion for a non-existent project said to be ongoing in Ondo State.

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it  found $1 million cash in one of the Abuja houses owned by embattled former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh. According to The Nation , the money was found hidden in one of the rooms in a mansion owned by the former military chief. Badeh's trial for allegedly diverting N3.97 billion belonging to the Nigerian Air Force(NAF) will commence today March 7th at an Abuja High Court. A top source in EFCC said:

Following a long trial in which he was accused of fraudulently pocketing $2.8 billion, Iran's billionaire tycoon Babak Zanjani has been sentenced to death, a judicial official said today March 6. The 41-year-old who is worth $13.5 billion and holds a Danish citizenship was convicted of fraud and economic crimes.  Judiciary spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejeie said at the press conference that apart from the death sentence, Zanjani must repay money to the state. Zanjani became notorious during the era of president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, finding ways to channel hard currency from oil sales to Tehran despite financial sanctions imposed on the Islamic republic's banks as punishment for its nuclear programme.

  President Buhari has expressed shock and sadness at the death of Barrister James Ocholi (SAN), who together with his wife and son were killed in a car crash in Abuja on March 6, 2016. President Buhari described the Minister of State for Labour’s death as untimely, regretting that Nigeria has lost a key component of the Change agenda. “Barrister Ocholi was an accomplished and patriotic Nigerian, who was keen to accept the call to service at a time his country needed him,” President Buhari said, adding that in the few months he had been in office, the late minister of state had already begun to distinguish himself through his commitment and dedication to his portfolio.

  The three female students kidnapped from the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu, Lagos have regained their freedom.The students were kidnapped last Monday February 29th. The police rescued them last night and also arrested some suspects.Lagos state Commissioner of Police who confirmed the story said he would be addressing newsmen by 2pm.

  Former President Obasanjo has attacked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which was founded during his regime, calling it a toothless bulldog.   Immediate past chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, Victor Umeh, was today arrested by men of the Department of State Security DSS. According to Channels TV, Umeh was picked up in Enugu and then flown to Abuja for questioning. The reason behind his arrest is yet unknown.

Nigerians serving jail terms in the United Kingdom will soon be transferred to Nigeria to complete their period, following an agreement signed between the Federal Government and the UK government. According to a top government source, former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, will be part of those that will be repatriated to complete their jail term in Nigeria. Ibori still has more than six months to stay in prison.

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday alleged that another Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr Joseph Nwobike, paid N750,000 into the account of Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court. According to the EFCC, Dr Joseph Nwobike is the second senior lawyer discovered to have paid bribe to Justice Yunusa, the first being Rickey Tarfa who allegedly paid N225,000 to the Judge. The new allegation is contained in a counter-affidavit filed in opposition to a further and better affidavit filed by Rickey Tarfa (SAN).

  Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, today paid a visit to the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School, Ikorodu, where three female students were kidnapped on Monday evening. She was accompanied by other top government functionaries and the heads of security agencies in the state. She was reportedly in the school to share in the pains of the parents, and to equally assure them that the government would leave no stone unturned until the three girls are rescued alive.   President Robert Mugabe has come up with a solution to the growing rate of rape and child abuse cases. He said that castration of rapists and child abusers is the best way to stem the vice.
