  Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says his team can win the Champions League this season insisting favourites do not always triumph in Europe’s top competition. The Blues have struggled domestically this season, with the Premier League title holders languishing 14 points off the pace in 15th position.

 

  A 30-year-old Lagos driver, Samuel Adamo, Adamo, who was married with three wives and five children, was stabbed to death in Oshodi, Lagos State. He was said to have been attacked in one of the motor parks in the Oshodi-under-bridge area, while calling passengers into his bus. It was learnt that some motor park thugs aka agbero, had approached him for a ‘loading fee’, but the deceased allegedly declined payment, saying there was no passenger in his bus yet. This supposedly caused an argument, which led to a fight between the victim and the thugs. Three of the area boys allegedly stabbed Adamo in the neck, chest and stomach and he reportedly bled to death. It was gathered that the police arrested one of the suspects, 21 year old Teslim Tajudeen.

  Nollywood actor, Prince Eke, who also happens to be Muma Gee’s husband has said Igbos should stop blaming anyone for where they have found themselves in this new government and take all the faults instead.   A Chinese woman aka ‘Tiger Mom’ had a six-month prison term upheld by a local court, which ruled that she had gone “too far” for flogging her foster son over unfinished homework. Legal experts say the case has shed light on the controversial practice of physical punishment in Chinese families to encourage young children to excel. The case broke in April after widely shared pictures on the Internet showed a boy, known only by his surname Shi, with raw red welts criss-crossing his back.

  Some Military officers believed to be working with some civilians to launch a smear campaign on the Nigerian Army and the person of the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, are being interrogated by the Army. A statement by the acting spokesperson of the Army, Col Sani Usman states that the smear campaign which is geared towards undermining the efforts of the Army in the fight against Boko Haram, is to start from next month. He called on Nigerians not to believe any information posted online that dents the image of the Nigerian Army. Read the statement after the cut...

  Five traders believed to be from the South East of Nigeria were reportedly killed by some militants after they failed to recite the Holy Quran at the Madala Market in Niger state last week Thursday. According to Vanguard, the armed militants went straight to one of the lines owned by the traders and immediately ordered them to recite the Holy Quran of which they could not. The militants unsatisfied then opened fire at close range, killing them. The five casualties have been identified as John Kalu, Oliver Ezemah, Uche Nguweze, Sunday Emmanuel while fifth casualty is yet to be identified. The militants escaped before the Police arrived the scene of the incident. Niger State police Command spokesman ASP Richard Adamu Oguche while confirming the incident said the police was in search of the militants.
